The Michigan State hockey program is on a recruiting hot streak, and they've just added another major piece to their future lineup. Ethan Belchetz, a towering 6-foot-5, 227-pound power forward, has committed to the Spartans, bringing elite talent to East Lansing.

Belchetz, who plays for the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), is projected to be a top-15 pick in this summer's NHL draft. Before a broken clavicle sidelined him in early March, some scouting services had him ranked as high as the top five overall. His combination of size and scoring ability makes him a nightmare for defenders—he posted 34 goals and 25 assists in 54 games this past season, following a strong rookie campaign where he notched 17 goals and 21 assists after being selected first overall in the 2024 OHL Draft.

The injury forced him to miss the remainder of the regular season and playoffs, but he's expected to be fully recovered and ready to hit the ice when MSU's season kicks off in October. That's excellent news for Spartans fans, as Belchetz—currently ranked as the ninth-best North American skater by NHL Central Scouting—brings a rare blend of physicality and finesse to the left wing.

He's not the only blue-chip prospect heading to Michigan State. The Spartans have assembled a stellar incoming class, including defenseman Chase Reid, who could go in the top five of the NHL draft, and forward Nikita Klepov, another projected first-round pick. They'll be joined by previously drafted talents like goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen, center Mason West, and transfer forward Cullen Potter, all first-round selections in the 2025 draft.

Belchetz's commitment fills an open roster spot created after recruit Max Heise decommitted from the program. With this level of talent pouring in, Michigan State is building a roster that could make serious noise in college hockey for years to come.
