Michigan State football has extended an offer to a linebacker with interest from multiple big-time programs

Michigan State football is making moves on the recruiting trail, and their latest target is a promising linebacker from Virginia. The Spartans have officially extended an offer to Tyson Washington, a three-star prospect out of Springfield, Va., who is already drawing interest from some of the biggest programs in the country.

Washington took to his social media account on Thursday to share the exciting news, posting "I am blessed to have earned an offer to Michigan State!!" for his followers. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker is rated as an 87 overall on 247Sports' scale, placing him as the No. 62 linebacker nationally and the 18th-ranked player from Virginia in the 2027 class.

The Spartans are joining a crowded field in pursuit of this talented defender. According to 247Sports, Washington holds offers from nearly 20 schools, including powerhouses like Penn State, Clemson, and Syracuse, along with Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Maryland, NC State, and West Virginia. Other programs in the mix include East Carolina, Marshall, USF, Coastal Carolina, James Madison, UConn, and Delaware State. It's a long list that speaks to Washington's potential as a game-changing linebacker.

While Michigan State is now in the conversation, they'll have some ground to make up. Washington already has official visits scheduled with Penn State, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and Wake Forest—four programs that currently hold an edge in his recruitment. The Spartans will need to find a way to secure an official visit of their own to stay competitive in this race.

For Michigan State fans, this offer signals the coaching staff's commitment to building a strong defensive foundation. Landing a player like Washington could be a key piece in future recruiting classes, especially as the Spartans look to bolster their linebacker corps. As the recruiting cycle heats up, all eyes will be on whether Michigan State can turn this offer into a commitment.
