Michigan State football is wasting no time making a strong impression on a promising new linebacker target from the Lone Star State. Just one day after extending a scholarship offer, the Spartans have secured an official visit from Rome Ewell, a three-star linebacker out of Springtown, Texas.

Ewell took to his social media to announce that he will be visiting Michigan State on June 19. This quick turnaround shows the Spartans' coaching staff is aggressively pursuing top talent early in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Ewell currently holds a recruiting rating of 86 in the 247Sports system, ranking as the No. 88 linebacker and No. 1,039 overall prospect in his class.

The Spartans are entering a competitive race for Ewell's commitment, as he already boasts an impressive offer list that includes Louisville, Houston, Boston College, Iowa State, Arizona State, Kansas State, Memphis, Texas State, North Texas, and Tulsa, among others. According to 247Sports, Ewell had originally planned an official visit to Boston College on June 19, but it appears he will now be swapping that trip for a weekend in East Lansing.

Ewell's recruiting schedule is filling up fast. He has official visits lined up with Houston on May 28, Louisville on June 5, and Iowa State on June 12, before heading to Michigan State. For Spartans fans, locking in this visit so quickly after the offer is a positive sign that the program is making a strong early impression on a versatile defender who could be a key piece of their future defense.
