Big news for Michigan State football fans—and a trip down memory lane. The Spartans have officially announced a home-and-home series with a Big 12 opponent from a neighboring state, and it's one that's been decades in the making.
On Thursday, Michigan State revealed they'll kick off a two-game series with the University of Cincinnati, starting in 2030. The Spartans will head to Nippert Stadium first on September 14, 2030, before hosting the Bearcats at Spartan Stadium on September 13, 2031. This marks the very first time these two programs will meet on the gridiron.
But while they've never faced off, the connection runs deep. Legendary former Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio spent three seasons at Cincinnati (2004–2006) before taking the helm in East Lansing, where he built a powerhouse. The Spartans also made a strong push to hire Cincinnati's iconic coach Luke Fickell after Dantonio retired, but Fickell declined—leading to the eventual hiring of Mel Tucker.
In addition to the Cincinnati series, Michigan State also announced future matchups with Oklahoma State and a home game against FCS-level Duquesne. For the full schedule details, check the official announcement from the team.
Whether you're gearing up for these future showdowns or just love repping your Spartans gear, now's the time to stock up on Michigan State apparel and show your pride for every game ahead.
