Michigan State's search for frontcourt help in the transfer portal just hit a significant snag. A key target, Alabama transfer Aiden Sherrell, has reportedly committed to Big Ten rival Indiana, according to CBS Sports insider Jon Rothstein.

This is a notable miss for the Spartans, who had been considered early contenders for the 6-foot-11 Detroit native. Sherrell, a former McDonald's All-American, started every game for the Crimson Tide last season, averaging 11.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks. His size and defensive presence made him a high-priority target to help fill the void left by departing big men Carson Cooper and Jaxon Kohler.

While the Spartans were in the mix, Indiana's pitch ultimately won out. With Sherrell off the board, Michigan State must quickly pivot to other options in a competitive portal market. The focus now shifts to potential visits from Charlotte transfer Anton Bonke and Cincinnati's Moustapha Thiam, as Tom Izzo and his staff continue their crucial offseason hunt for a reliable post player.
