Thursday's Star Wars Day for the Mets gave fans new Mr. and Mrs. Met costumes to crack jokes about.

The New York Mets brought the Force—and plenty of laughs—to Citi Field on Thursday for Star Wars Day, and as expected, their beloved mascots Mr. and Mrs. Met stole the show in ways no one quite predicted.

Let's be honest: Mrs. Met has long been an internet sensation, with fans (and even rival mascots) openly declaring their admiration for the baseball-headed sweetheart. She's happily married to Mr. Met, but that hasn't stopped a global fanbase from dreaming up creative—and often hilarious—ways to win her over. This year's Star Wars Day only added fuel to the fire.

For the occasion, Mr. Met suited up as The Mandalorian, complete with a large helmet that hid his signature baseball head. Mrs. Met, meanwhile, channeled Bo-Katan Kryze, another fan-favorite character from the Star Wars universe. The costumes were genuinely impressive, and the highlight came when Mr. Met—carrying Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) in a pouch—tossed the little creature to Mrs. Met for the ceremonial first pitch.

But as soon as the images hit social media, the internet did what it does best. Fans couldn't resist commenting on Mrs. Met's striking look, with many calling her the true star of the day. Others, however, couldn't help but notice that Mr. Met's Mandalorian helmet bore a striking resemblance to Dark Helmet from the comedy classic Spaceballs. The comparison sparked a wave of jokes, with fans playfully questioning whether the Mets had accidentally crossed galaxies.

From "thirst trap" tweets to Spaceballs references, this year's Star Wars Day proved once again that when it comes to mascot fashion, the Mets know how to keep fans talking—and laughing.
