In a scene straight out of a sports movie, Mount Olive baseball etched its name into county history with a stunning upset for the ages.
On a electric May evening at Montville High School, the Marauders dethroned the six-time defending champions Delbarton, 8-7, in the Morris County Tournament final. The packed crowd witnessed what many are calling the biggest shocker in tournament history.
At the heart of this unforgettable performance was junior Brayden Longo, who delivered a virtuoso display worthy of legend. Longo crushed a go-ahead three-run home run in the fourth inning, pitched his way to the win on the mound, and then capped it all off with a spectacular game-ending double play that sent the Mount Olive faithful into a frenzy. His all-around heroics earned him tournament Most Valuable Player honors.
The victory is a historic milestone for the program. It marks Mount Olive's first Morris County Tournament championship since 1991 and only the second county title in school history, ending a 34-year drought in the most dramatic fashion possible.
For a team that had been chasing glory for decades, this win represents more than just a trophy—it's a testament to perseverance, teamwork, and the kind of magic that makes high school sports unforgettable.
