As a follow-up to our most underrated Miami Dolphins player of all time, I then asked the following question the next evening:
Who is your all-time most overrated Miami Dolphins player and why? This can be someone who is overrated because of the hype they received, the massive contract they signed, or another reason you believe applies.
Phoenix6 points out a couple of guys who were overpaid.
Tua Tagovailoa (QB): high salary expectations, poor performance in cold weather/prime time, & a perceived reliance on the team’s offensive system. He sucks.
Byron Jones (CB): big pisser of ’22 as overpaid for his production, though some considered him serviceable. I did not. He sucked.
StanleyDoyle1 bravely selected a Dolphins legend and easily one of the most beloved players to ever play in South Florida.
I have to go with Zach Thomas here. He was a tackle-stat machine. All good until you saw him getting steamrolled by bigger backs. He benefitted from having Bowens clog up or impede running lanes, and sitting in the middle of a very talented group of players. He wasn’t a bad player – he was a good player. But he was a better story than a player, and undeserving of the acclaim surrounding him
davidson11 went with a tight end that spent three years in Miami between his stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers.
sdphinsfan went with the 5th round linebacker who played in Miami for 5 seasons before playing for 4 other teams.
heatforlife points out the wideout who never lived up to his first-round selection despite some flashes here and there before moving on.
coach k 13 chose the first round bust that just could not seem to get off the juice.
PA phinphan says, what about another diva of a wideout?
On offense I would probably say Brandon Marshall. In Miami, he definitely had a severe case of “dropitis”. So much for him helping Chad Henne become a better QB. A close second for me is Sammie Smith. His problem was “fumblitis”. He had more fumbles than TDs in Miami.
On the other side of the ball is a little tougher for me. I was never a real fan of Terrell Buckley. For all his good plays he had way more plays where he got toasted. But number 1 would have to be Ndamukong Suh. He never seemed to be thrilled about playing in Miami. But he sure didn’t mind taking their money. Can you say overpaid!?!
CluelessNFLfan points out that the first-round bust was sold to the fans as the next Hall of Fame pass rusher in the mold of JT.
Dion Jordan. His college production was mediocre at best. Yet so-called pundits labeled him the next Jason Taylor and the best defensive player of that draft.
Lefty5150 is another who points to the very overpaid QB.
TheRoo1 reminds us of the player that the team traded for, only to waive him three days later.
FlyerFinFan says it just hurts too much to even think about.
MiamiItaliano chose a linebacker he believes sells himself as a better player than he actually was.
