The District 2 Meet of Champions delivered an unforgettable day of track and field at Lewiston High School, where consistency and teamwork reigned supreme. The Moscow girls and Lewiston boys emerged as champions, showcasing the depth of talent across Idaho's District II.
In the boys' competition, the Lewiston Bengals edged out Moscow by a single point, scoring 152.5 to the Bears' 151.5. Logos of Moscow secured third place with 100.5 points. On the girls' side, Moscow dominated with an impressive 198 points, followed by Logos at 136 and Prairie of Cottonwood at 106.
The meet lived up to its "Champions" billing, with athletes delivering personal bests and standout performances throughout the day. Lewiston coach Mike Jones highlighted the event's significance: "It really is the area's best. You're getting the top talent from all 19 schools, big and small, and the competition brings everyone together."
One of the most electrifying moments came from Moscow's Caleb Heywood, who blazed to a personal best of 10.65 seconds in the 100-meter dash. That time not only secured first place but also catapulted him to the top spot in Idaho across all classifications. Heywood followed up with a win in the 200 meters, clocking 21.46 seconds—just 0.03 seconds off his state-best mark.
"The 100 felt really good," Heywood said. "I've been working on my start all season, and the good weather finally let everything click. It went super smoothly, and running a PR felt amazing."
Heywood credited his strong finish in the 200 to the warm Lewiston conditions and his strategy of maintaining acceleration. "I try to push myself to hold top speed longer each race. That's what's going to make me better," he explained.
Beyond the individual brilliance, the meet was a testament to the power of consistent team efforts. From sprinters to field event athletes, every point mattered in this showcase of Idaho's rising track and field stars.
