In a move that bridges Tennessee's rich high school baseball tradition with Major League stardom, the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association announced Wednesday that Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts will become the title sponsor of their annual Mr. Baseball Award. The honor will now be officially known as the Mookie Betts Mr. Baseball Award, adding a new layer of prestige to one of the state's most coveted high school baseball accolades.

Betts, a Nashville native who starred at Overton High School, posted a jaw-dropping .548 batting average with 24 stolen bases during his junior season before ascending to become one of baseball's elite talents. His journey from Tennessee's high school diamonds to four World Series championships with the Boston Red Sox and Dodgers makes him an ideal ambassador for the award, which recognizes the state's top high school baseball player each year.

"The Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association is built on the belief that the growth of baseball in our state depends on the dedication, passion, and leadership of its coaches," the TBCA stated in their announcement. "Our mission is to advance the game by supporting coaches, fostering player development, and strengthening the baseball community across Tennessee."

Since its founding in the early 1990s, the TBCA has established itself as one of the premier coaches' associations in the South, with its structure and vision serving as a model for other states. This new partnership with Betts adds an exciting chapter to that legacy, inspiring the next generation of Tennessee ballplayers to dream big—whether that means winning a state championship or taking the field at Dodger Stadium.
