Molly Walline led the offense and her sister Emma paced the defense for Milan soccer vs. SMCC; Monroe baseball pitchers shine in sweep of Bedford.

There’s nothing quite like sibling synergy on the pitch, and the Walline sisters proved it in style Wednesday night. Molly Walline powered the Milan offense with two goals and an assist, while her sister Emma anchored a defense that allowed just three shots on goal, leading the team to a commanding 4-0 victory over St. Mary Catholic Central in Huron League round-robin action.

“They are a great duo,” Milan coach Phil Hayes said of the sisters. “They’ve always been opposites. One is more aggressive on the defensive end and the other is more aggressive on offense.” That contrast in styles creates a perfect balance for the team, with Molly driving the attack and Emma shutting down opponents at the back.

Abbi Neuhart and Ellie Budd each chipped in with a goal and an assist, while Charlotte Finch provided strong defensive support in front of goalkeeper Olivia Parker. The win pushes Milan to 5-3-2 on the season—a solid turnaround after heavy graduation losses last year.

“We replaced a lot of girls,” Hayes said. “We’re doing a lot of new things and trying out new people.” With the state tournament set to begin May 20, the coach believes his squad is hitting its stride at just the right time. “This definitely boosts their confidence. They’re seeing that the things we do in practice work. Slow and steady wins the race. I feel like we are ready.”

On the baseball diamond, Monroe’s pitchers stole the show in a doubleheader sweep of Bedford, winning 4-1 and 3-1. Dalen Cosby and Landon Loveland each allowed just one run, with Loveland tossing a complete-game five-hitter in the opener. Cosby gave up only one hit in the nightcap before Jaydin Hopper came on for the final out. Landin Wells went 2-for-3 to lead the offense in game one, while Asher Simmons doubled and Carson Liedel homered in game two. Keagan Dixon went 2-for-2 for Bedford in the first game.
