Australia's T20 World Cup campaign just got a massive boost—captain Sophie Molineux has been declared fit and officially named in the 15-player squad for the tournament in England.

The 28-year-old all-rounder, who took over the captaincy in January after Alyssa Healy's retirement, will lead a side hungry to reclaim the World Cup title after a disappointing semi-final exit in 2024. Molineux's appointment was initially seen as a surprise, given her injury-riddled career, but she's proven her resilience every step of the way.

Molineux injured her back before her first away series as captain—the tour of the Caribbean—where she could only play as a batter. National selector Shawn Flegler made it clear that she wouldn't have been considered for the World Cup if she couldn't bowl. But with her fitness now confirmed, she's ready to lead from the front.

Vice-captains Ash Gardner and Tahlia McGrath will provide support, while fast bowler Lucy Hamilton earns her first major tournament call-up. Hamilton's left-arm pace offers a unique edge, especially with conditions in England expected to favor variety over raw speed. "Darcie Brown was unlucky to miss out," Flegler said, "but we've gone with Hamilton's left-arm option to balance the attack."

All-rounders Annabel Sutherland and Grace Harris also return to the fold—Sutherland after being rested, and Harris after being dropped for the West Indies tour in March. Their experience and versatility add serious depth to a squad already packed with talent.

Australia will fine-tune their preparations with warm-up matches against South Africa, England, and the West Indies before their tournament opener against South Africa on 13 June at Old Trafford.

"Sophie has already built a strong connection with the group," Flegler added. "We're excited to see what this side can achieve under her leadership."

Australia T20 World Cup Squad:
Sophie Molineux (capt), Nicola Carey, Ash Gardner, Kim Garth, Lucy Hamilton, Grace Harris, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Tahlia McGrath, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Voll, Georgia Wareham.
