This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.

In a season already full of highlights, Alyssa Thomas continues to prove why she's one of the most dominant forces in the WNBA. The former Maryland women's basketball star came within a single rebound of her first triple-double of the 2025 season during the Phoenix Mercury's 16-point loss on Sunday. Thomas posted a game-high 19 points, dished out 11 assists, and grabbed nine boards, directly contributing to 46 of the Mercury's 79 total points.

This near triple-double came just 24 hours after Thomas led the Mercury to a commanding 99-66 victory with a 20-point, nine-assist performance. Through just two games, she already leads the league in assists and ranks in the top 20 in both points and rebounds. Given her historic 2025 campaign—where she set a single-season WNBA record with eight triple-doubles across 41 games—Thomas looks poised to break her own record this year.

Beyond the WNBA, Maryland athletics had a busy weekend. The No. 3-seed Maryland women's lacrosse team jumped out to a five-goal first-quarter lead and cruised to an 11-8 NCAA Tournament second-round victory over Rutgers. Keeley Block earned Terp of the Week honors after scoring a game-high four goals in that win.

On the diamond, Maryland baseball snapped a seven-game conference losing streak with an 11-7 victory over Rutgers on Sunday. Additionally, three Terps—David Mendez, Ty Kaunas, and Brayden Martin—earned spots in D1 Baseball's top 50 positional rankings, highlighting the program's rising talent.
