MLB News: Astros Lose Key Player Ahead of Dodgers Series Finale

The Houston Astros announced shortstop Carlos Correa will miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury before Wednesday's game.

The Houston Astros have been dealt a major setback just ahead of their series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers, as star shortstop Carlos Correa has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury.

Correa, who went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the series opener, sat out Tuesday's game after injuring his ankle while taking swings in the batting cage, according to MLB.com's Brian McTaggart. In 32 games this season, the 26-year-old posted a solid .279/.369/.418 slash line with three home runs and 16 RBIs over 122 at-bats.

The Astros, currently sitting at 15-22 and fourth in the AL West, have been plagued by injuries all season. Alongside Correa, key players like Tatusya Imai, Jeremy Peña, and Yainer Diaz are all on the injured list. Even All-Star closer Josh Hader has yet to throw a pitch this season. Combine that with a struggling pitching staff, and Houston finds itself four games behind the first-place Athletics and 2.5 games out of a Wild Card spot.

In Tuesday's game without Correa, the Astros managed just two runs—both on solo home runs—while the Dodgers' bats went cold. But Los Angeles is looking to rebound in Wednesday's rubber match, rolling out a strong lineup with Tyler Glasnow on the mound. Shohei Ohtani returns to the leadoff spot after a pitching-only day Tuesday and will aim to snap an 0-for-17 slump.

The Dodgers haven't won a series since taking two games from the Chicago Cubs in late April, so Wednesday's 11:10 a.m. PT matchup is a big opportunity to turn things around. With Correa out and Houston's lineup thin, could this be the break LA needs to get back on track?
