The A's catcher is likely to draw some trade interest this year.

The Athletics have been making headlines for all the wrong reasons lately—and not the kind that gets fans excited. After trading away star closer Mason Miller at last year's deadline (who's now dominating for the Padres), the A's might be preparing to lose another elite talent.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, several MLB teams are circling the A's with serious interest in catcher Shea Langeliers—a 31-homer threat behind the plate who's quickly becoming one of baseball's most sought-after trade targets.

"Teams in need of catching help are paying close attention to the Athletics and Shea Langeliers," Nightengale reports.

And it's easy to see why. At 28 years old and playing at an elite level, Langeliers is the kind of catcher who can change a franchise's trajectory. He's currently under contract for $5.25 million in 2026, but that number is about to skyrocket. With free agency looming after 2028, the A's face a tough decision: lock him up long-term or cash in now while his value is at its peak.

This season alone, Langeliers leads MLB with 45 hits, 10 home runs, a .336 batting average, and a staggering 1.017 OPS. Last year, he crushed 31 homers; the year before, 29. He's not just a power hitter—he's arguably the best-hitting catcher in the game right now.

The A's have already invested heavily in their lineup, locking up young stars like Jacob Wilson, Lawrence Butler, Brent Rooker, and Tyler Soderstrom to big deals. Nick Kurtz and Langeliers are next in line—and they happen to be the team's two best hitters.

While a trade is far from certain—the A's aren't eager to lose their star backstop—the buzz around Langeliers is real. For any team with a hole behind the plate, he represents a rare opportunity to add a game-changing catcher in his prime.

Whether Oakland ultimately pulls the trigger or not, one thing is clear: Shea Langeliers is the name on every scout's lips this season.
