The Vegas Golden Knights brought the heat in Game 3, and Mitch Marner was the star of the show. After a tight, scoreless opening half in Game 2, this matchup was anything but slow. The Golden Knights exploded out of the gate, riding a Marner hat trick to a dominant 6-2 victory, giving them a 2-1 series lead over the Anaheim Ducks.

Vegas wasted no time making a statement. Just 1:06 into the first period, Jack Eichel threaded a perfect cross-ice pass from the left wall to defenseman Shea Theodore, who wristed the puck past Anaheim goalie Lukas Dostal from the crease. A screen from Ducks forward Ryan Poehling left Dostal guessing, and the Golden Knights had the early 1-0 lead.

The momentum only grew from there. Vegas’ penalty kill, already a force in the playoffs, struck again with a short-handed goal. Marner carried the puck into the Anaheim zone against a tired Ducks unit, then dropped it to Brayden McNabb. McNabb skated down the left wing and snapped a wrist shot from the faceoff dot, slipping it under Dostal’s glove at 12:13 of the first to make it 2-0.

Just when the Ducks thought they’d survive the period, Vegas struck again. On their first power play of the night, with only 4.6 seconds left in the frame, Marner pounced on a loose rebound Dostal couldn’t corral and stuffed it inside the left post. That gave the Golden Knights a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission. The only downside for Vegas? Losing captain Mark Stone to an injury after just 4:24 of ice time.

The first period was a frustrating one for Anaheim. Despite outshooting Vegas 11-8, having two power play chances to the Golden Knights’ one, and landing more hits (15-11), they found themselves in a three-goal hole. They also committed eight fewer giveaways (11 to 3), but none of that mattered on the scoreboard. The Ducks made a goaltending change to start the second period, pulling Dostal in favor of Ville Husso.

From a hockey gear perspective, this game was a showcase of precision and power. Marner’s hat trick was a masterclass in positioning and quick releases—skills any player can work on with the right stick and gloves. And for fans looking to channel their inner Golden Knight, that cross-ice pass from Eichel to Theodore is a perfect reminder of why a quality stick and accurate passing are game-changers on the ice.
