The Missouri Tigers received a scare over the weekend when star running back Ahmad Hardy was shot at a concert in Mississippi early Sunday morning. According to the team, Hardy is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.

Hardy sustained a gunshot wound but underwent surgery early Sunday and is now listed as stable. While the recovery is promising, the school has stated that his return-to-field timeline is currently unknown, with updates to follow as more information becomes available.

"Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family, and fans," Missouri Athletics said in a statement. "We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support."

Hardy, who led the SEC in rushing last season with 1,649 yards and 16 touchdowns, quickly became one of college football's most exciting backs after transferring from Louisiana-Monroe, where he rushed for 1,351 yards and 13 touchdowns as a freshman. Heading into the 2026 season, he was widely projected as one of the top players in the conference.

If Hardy is sidelined for an extended period, the Tigers will turn to a backfield featuring redshirt junior Jamal Roberts and redshirt sophomore Xai'Shaun Edwards to carry the load. For now, the focus remains on Hardy's health and recovery, with the entire college football community sending its best wishes.
