After a season of near-misses, the Missouri Tigers finally broke through in style. In their final home game at Taylor Stadium, Missouri baseball snapped a lengthy SEC drought with a commanding 4-1 victory over Vanderbilt on Sunday afternoon. The win wasn't just another notch in the win column—it marked the Tigers' first SEC home victory since April 6, 2024, when they took down then-No. 4 Florida, and their first SEC series win over Vanderbilt since April 20, 2018.
While the history books will remember the dates, head coach Kerrick Jackson kept his focus on the present. "The significance of winning the series and those types of things... is not as relevant as the idea of we're playing good baseball," Jackson said. "We've done that multiple times this year but we haven't been able to finish the job. This weekend we were able to."
The Tigers' offense struck early, plating three runs in the opening frame, but it was the pitching staff that stole the show. Six different arms took the mound in a true bullpen game, starting with Keyler Gonzalez and finishing with a Sam Rosand save. The result? Just one earned run allowed all afternoon. "It wasn't an offensive day today," Jackson noted. "Our guys were able to come in there, pitch both sides of the plate and throw their secondary pitches for strikes."
The rally started at the top of the order, with Jase Woita, Kam Durnin, and Blaize Ward setting the table in the first inning. A walk and back-to-back singles brought home the first run, and catcher Mateo Serna kept the momentum rolling to seal the deal.
For Vanderbilt, the series loss puts their NCAA tournament hopes on thin ice. For Missouri, it's a momentum-building victory as they head into their final SEC road series against No. 4 Texas. After a weekend like this, the Tigers are proving they can finish what they start.
