Minor League roundup, April 5: Luis Hernández is fitting in just fine

Yesterday on the farm.

Yesterday, the Giants' farm system delivered a packed day of action across four games—though High-A Eugene took the day off, and the Arizona Complex League kept busy. Let's get you caught up on the highlights, starting with some standout performances and roster moves that are shaping the season.

First, a quick apology: if you were expecting a full weekend roundup on Monday, I missed that window. But don't worry—next weekend's recap will be bigger and better. For now, let's dive into Tuesday's action on the farm.

In roster news, the Giants added 16-year-old Venezuelan left-handed pitcher Moises Soto to their international signing class. Meanwhile, catcher Ty Hanchey moved from High-A Eugene to Triple-A Sacramento to bolster the River Cats' depth behind the plate following Jesús Rodríguez's promotion. Also, left-hander Nick Margevicius (Triple-A) and utility player Jean Carlos Sio (High-A) both began rehab assignments in the Complex League.

On the awards front, two undrafted free agents earned well-deserved Pitcher of the Month honors. Right-hander Darien Smith of Double-A Richmond posted a 1.35 ERA in April for the Eastern League, then lowered it further with five shutout innings in his first May start. Over in the Northwest League, High-A Eugene lefty Charlie McDaniel finished April with a 1.10 ERA and followed up with four scoreless innings to start May. Congratulations to both!

Now, onto the games. The Sacramento River Cats fell 4-0 to the Reno Aces. With Monday's promotions of top prospect Bryce Eldridge (No. 1 CPL) and Jesús Rodríguez (No. 16 CPL) to the majors, the Triple-A lineup took a hit in excitement—and it showed. The River Cats were shut out without a single extra-base hit, a tough start to their post-promotion chapter. Only two position players from the Community Prospect List remain on the roster, but they combined for six of the team's total hits. It's a reminder that while the big-league club gains firepower, the farm system's depth is always in motion.
