The Minnesota Vikings have a major roster hole to fill, and it's not on defense. Despite spending four of their top five picks in the 2026 NFL Draft on defensive prospects—and boasting the seventh-best defense in points allowed last season—interim general manager Rob Brzezinski's squad still has a glaring need on offense.
While the Vikings' defensive focus was partly unintentional, it was also necessary after losing veterans like Harrison Smith, Jonathan Allen, and Javon Hargrave. However, the offense lost a key piece when Jalen Nailor departed, leaving a void at the WR3 position. The Athletic's Vikings insider, Alec Lewis, even described it as a "major roster hole."
The Vikings are top-heavy at wide receiver, with one of the NFL's best duos in Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. But beyond them, the rest of the team's receivers have combined for just three receptions—all from Tai Felton, who's entering his second season. That's why Lewis predicts Minnesota will target a veteran free agent to compete with Felton for the No. 3 spot.
"The first major roster hole is the No. 3 wide receiver spot," Lewis wrote. "Felton, a third-round pick in 2025, could claim that role, but that might be a tad too lofty an expectation. The Vikings brought free-agent receiver Jauan Jennings in for some exploratory sessions, and that signing remains a possibility. Other savvy, block-first receivers remain available, too."
Speaking of Jennings, the former San Francisco 49ers receiver recently visited the Vikings for a workout and two-day stay but left without a contract. At 28, he's still a viable option. Other potential targets include Odell Beckham Jr., who won a Super Bowl with Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell on the Los Angeles Rams. For a team ready to compete, adding a reliable veteran to that receiver room could be the missing piece.
