The Minnesota Lynx have secured their cornerstone, signing All-Star forward Napheesa Collier to a supermax contract. The franchise announced the major re-signing, a move that solidifies their championship aspirations for the coming season.
While terms were not officially disclosed, reports indicate it's a one-year deal worth $1.4 million. This places Collier among an elite group, joining only Las Vegas Aces star A'Ja Wilson and Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell as WNBA players on supermax contracts.
The deal comes on the heels of a historic season for both Collier and the Lynx. Collier posted a career-high 22.9 points per game while leading Minnesota to a league-best 34 regular-season wins, tying the WNBA record. Her phenomenal all-around performance included 7.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game, earning her a runner-up finish in the MVP voting for the second straight year.
Lynx coach and president of basketball operations Cheryl Reeve emphasized Collier's vital role, stating, "Phee has been such an integral part of the Lynx since she was drafted in 2019. Coming off a historic 50/40/90 season and guiding the Lynx to the most wins in franchise history, Phee is hungry to position the Lynx for a championship run."
Since being selected sixth overall in the 2019 draft, the former UConn standout has been a model of consistency and excellence. A five-time All-Star, four-time All-WNBA selection, and the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year, Collier has also helped Team USA secure two Olympic gold medals.
With their franchise player locked in, the Lynx now turn their focus to the court. They will face the Washington Mystics in a preseason game on April 25 before tipping off the regular season at home against the Atlanta Dream on May 10.
