Milan have wasted no time in lining up Atalanta's highly-rated sporting director Tony D'Amico as their top target to replace outgoing sporting director Igli Tare. However, the Rossoneri face stiff competition from Roma, who are also eyeing D'Amico as they prepare to part ways with Frederic Massara.

According to reports from Tuttosport, Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has already reached a preliminary agreement with D'Amico, offering a two-year contract with an option for a third season. Interestingly, D'Amico was Furlani's first choice before the club ultimately went with Tare, and the CEO has moved quickly to revive that interest now that a vacancy has opened up at San Siro.

Atalanta, for their part, have already taken steps to protect themselves by securing Cristiano Giuntoli as D'Amico's replacement, signaling that they expect their sporting director to move on this summer.

The final decision on D'Amico's appointment, however, rests with Milan owner Gerry Cardinale. The club's disappointing season has led to an internal power struggle, and Cardinale's verdict on the club's management structure will be decisive. If Cardinale maintains his current level of influence over sporting decisions, D'Amico is expected to be confirmed. But if Zlatan Ibrahimovic's position within the club is strengthened, a different profile would be sought instead.

Roma represent a genuine alternative destination for D'Amico. The Giallorossi are set to part ways with Massara, who never established a strong working relationship with coach Gian Piero Gasperini. Gasperini has reportedly asked the Friedkin family for guarantees, including a sporting director he trusts to help build the squad from next season. D'Amico fits that profile perfectly—the pair worked together successfully at Atalanta, where they won the Europa League under Gasperini's guidance.

For Milan fans, this is a crucial decision that could shape the club's direction for years to come. D'Amico has earned a reputation as one of Serie A's sharpest talent evaluators during his time at Atalanta, and his arrival would signal a commitment to building through smart recruitment—a philosophy that has served the Bergamo club so well.
