So much for theories about Mike Vrabel taking an extended leave of absence.
The New England Patriots head coach rejoined his team on Monday, according to NBC Sports Boston's Phil Perry. Vrabel last week announced he would leave the Patriots on Saturday, the third day of the 2026 NFL Draft, to seek counseling amid the controversy surrounding his apparent affair with reporter Dianna Russini.
"My understanding is Mike Vrabel is back in the office today," Vrabel wrote Monday in an X post. "Missed Day 3 of the draft. Spoke about prioritizing family, while also recognizing his responsibilities to the team, last week."
Given the seriousness of Vrabel's off-field issues, many wondered whether he would leave the Patriots for several weeks, perhaps until offseason practices start in May. But his absence lasted just two days.
That said, Vrabel seemingly could balance his job responsibilities with additional counseling sessions in the coming weeks. The Patriots also will go an extended break from late June to late July, potentially giving Vrabel additional time with his family. That's pure speculation, however.
The Patriots will hold organized team activities on May 27 and 29, as well as June 1, 2, 4, 8, 9, and 11. Mandatory minicmap will be held from June 15 through 17.
