The Arizona Cardinals are in the thick of rookie minicamp this weekend, and all eyes are on new quarterback Carson Beck as he takes the field with the team for the first time. But during head coach Mike LaFleur's Friday press conference, another signal-caller stole some of the spotlight.

Veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett has been absent from the team's voluntary offseason workouts while seeking adjustments to his current contract. When asked about the status of negotiations, LaFleur kept it brief but optimistic.

"Ongoing. Everything's good from a dialogue standpoint," LaFleur said. "Like we said, this is voluntary. So that's where we'll leave it."

The coach was pressed further on whether Brissett's absence puts the team "behind the 8-ball," especially as they install a new offensive system. LaFleur was unfazed, pointing to Brissett's extensive experience as a calming factor.

"He's played a lot of football," LaFleur added. "We're in communication, he knows what the expectation is."

In the meantime, Beck and backup Gardner Minshew are soaking up extra reps. For young quarterbacks looking to make an impression, this is a golden opportunity—and one that could shake up the depth chart before the regular season kicks off. If either player capitalizes, Brissett's hold on a roster spot might not be as secure as it once seemed.
