The New York Knicks did exactly what they needed to do—dispatch the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the playoffs. In that sense, Thursday night's Game 6 blowout at State Farm Arena might not seem all that extraordinary. But when you consider the Knicks dropped to a 2-1 series deficit and things started looking dicey, their response was nothing short of dominant. New York stormed back to win three straight, each by double digits, with Thursday's victory being the most emphatic—and lopsided—of them all.
Leading 40-15 after the first quarter and an eye-popping 83-36 at halftime—the largest halftime lead in NBA playoff history—the Knicks got contributions from up and down the roster. One of the biggest sparks came from Mikal Bridges, who finally broke out of an offensive slump to finish with 24 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a block in just 27 minutes.
It was Bridges' highest scoring output of the series. Entering Game 6, he was averaging just 7.2 points per game in the playoffs after putting up 14.4 points per game during the regular season—already his lowest scoring average since 2021-22. In fact, his 12 shot attempts on Thursday were only one fewer than he had in his previous three games combined.
"Just doing whatever it takes to win," Bridges said. "That's pretty much it. Just go do it for those guys."
Bridges' re-emergence gives the Knicks another dangerous offensive weapon and signals that he's once again playing with aggression while staying efficient. He shot 10-for-12 from the field, including 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. Head coach Mike Brown was thrilled to see Bridges return to form and made sure to highlight not just his scoring but his all-around impact.
"It was great. He just did what he's capable of doing," Brown said. "Is he gonna go 10-for-12 every night? No, but he was aggressive. He took great shots. I wouldn't let it go unnoticed that his defense was phenomenal. Not only was his defense phenomenal, but rebounding. A guy like Mikal should average 5-7 rebounds a game at his size."
For a Knicks team eyeing a deep playoff run, having Bridges back in rhythm—on both ends of the floor—could be the difference-maker. And for fans who love seeing their favorite players in peak form, it's the kind of performance that makes you want to gear up in Knicks apparel and get ready for the next round.
