Miguel Vargas homered twice and drove in three runs, and the Chicago White Sox beat Luis Castillo and the Seattle Mariners 6-1 on Saturday night. Colson Montgomery also went deep for Chicago, which had lost three straight and four of five overall. Anthony Kay (2-1) pitched five innings of one-run ball.

Miguel Vargas put on a show at Guaranteed Rate Field on Saturday night, launching two home runs and driving in three runs to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 6-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Chicago, which had dropped four of its last five games.

Colson Montgomery also went deep for the White Sox, sending a two-run shot to right field in the first inning off Mariners starter Luis Castillo. That homer extended Montgomery's on-base streak to a career-best 21 consecutive games. Chicago improved to 18-21 on the season—a significant turnaround from last year, when they were just 11-28 after 39 games.

Anthony Kay (2-1) delivered a solid outing on the mound, pitching five innings and allowing just one run to earn the win. The White Sox bullpen locked things down from there, keeping Seattle's bats quiet for most of the night.

For the Mariners, Julio Rodríguez collected two of the team's four hits, but it wasn't enough to overcome a tough night from Castillo (0-4). The right-hander gave up four runs and five hits over four innings, striking out six but suffering his third straight loss. It was a rare off-night for Castillo against Chicago—he had been 2-0 with a 1.71 ERA in his previous five starts versus the White Sox.

Vargas was the star of the show, crushing a two-run homer off Castillo in the third inning and adding a solo shot against left-hander Josh Simpson in the fifth. The performance marked his second career multihomer game, with the first coming against the Chicago Cubs last May. Vargas now has nine home runs this season, already closing in on his career-high of 16 set last year.

Seattle managed to scratch across a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Rob Refsnyder, and they threatened again in the eighth when they put runners on the corners. But Randy Arozarena struck out swinging to end the inning and snuff out any comeback hopes.

The series wraps up on Sunday, with the Mariners sending Logan Gilbert (2-3, 4.30 ERA) to the mound against Chicago's Davis Martin (5-1, 1.64 ERA). After a performance like this, the White Sox will be looking to carry that momentum—and those power swings—into the finale.
