Liverpool are gearing up for a midfield overhaul this summer, and one of their brightest young talents is set for a crucial showdown with manager Arne Slot over his future at Anfield.

The Reds last refreshed their engine room in 2023, bringing in Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexis Mac Allister. But since then, Slot has seen diminishing returns from some of those players, while contract uncertainty looms over homegrown star Curtis Jones.

Now, attention turns to Harvey Elliott. The 23-year-old playmaker, who spent this season on loan at Aston Villa, is out of contract in 2027, but with only one year left on his deal, a summer transfer seems inevitable. Elliott's loan spell at Villa Park was a frustrating one—he was expected to trigger a £35 million permanent clause after 10 Premier League appearances, but Unai Emery's side showed no intention of honoring the agreement, limiting his game time instead.

Despite the setback, Elliott still has plenty of suitors. According to BBC Sport, the England U21 international is attracting interest from both the Premier League and clubs across Europe. But before any move materializes, he's set for a face-to-face meeting with Slot to discuss his place in the Dutchman's plans.

"Harvey Elliott is attracting Premier League and European interest but is still expected back at Liverpool for the start of pre-season," the report states. "He is unlikely to have a future at Liverpool if Arne Slot is in charge next season, but the playmaker is due to report for pre-season training at Axa Training Centre in the summer."

Elliott, who won the Premier League title with Liverpool last season, has been treated shoddily during his loan spell and deserves clarity on his future. The report also suggests his fate could change if Slot is replaced, but the former Feyenoord boss is under contract until 2027, making that scenario unlikely.

For now, all eyes are on that showdown talk—and whether Elliott will be wearing Liverpool red or moving on to a new chapter this summer.
