The Michigan State women's basketball team is facing another significant roster shift as starting guard Rashunda Jones has entered the NCAA transfer portal. This move marks the second Spartan starter to seek a new program this offseason, signaling a period of transition for the squad.
Jones made a substantial impact in her single season in East Lansing. A key contributor, she helped propel the Spartans to a 23-9 record and a second-round appearance in the NCAA tournament. Starting 28 games, she averaged 11.7 points per contest—the team's third-highest scorer—and earned a well-deserved spot on the Big Ten All-Defensive Team.
In a social media post announcing her decision, Jones expressed gratitude while looking ahead. "Thank you to my coaches, teammates and especially my family for your constant support and for believing in me," she stated. "With that being said, I have decided to enter the transfer portal. This was not an easy decision, but I'm excited for what the future holds."
Her departure is part of a larger exodus, as she becomes the fourth Michigan State player to enter the portal this spring, joining starter Inếs Sotelo and reserves Jordan Ode and Juliann Woodard. Jones, a South Bend, Indiana native, is no stranger to change, having transferred to MSU from Purdue prior to last season.
With Jones's exit and the graduation of Grace VanSlooten and Jalyn Brown, guard Kennedy Blair is now the only primary starter from last year's lineup currently expected to return. As the transfer portal continues to reshape rosters across college basketball, all eyes will be on how Coach Robyn Fralick and the Spartans rebuild for the coming season.
