Michigan State football is closing out April with a strong recruiting surge, and the momentum shows no signs of slowing down. On Thursday morning, the Spartans secured a major commitment from three-star edge rusher Jack Schuler, who announced his pledge to the program with an emphatic declaration: he's "120% committed" to Michigan State.
Schuler, a native of Columbus, Ohio, brings impressive credentials to East Lansing. Rated as a three-star prospect with an 86 rating in 247Sports' system, he ranks as the No. 79 edge rusher nationally and the No. 39 player from Ohio in the 2027 class composite rankings. His commitment makes him the seventh player to join Michigan State's 2027 recruiting class.
The edge rusher's recruitment was relatively under-the-radar compared to some of his peers, holding offers from fewer than 10 schools. Michigan State stood out as his only Power Four offer, with other suitors including UConn, Marshall, Toledo, Ball State, Central Michigan, Kent State, Liberty, and Miami (OH). This makes Schuler's commitment particularly valuable for the Spartans, as they beat out several mid-major programs for his services.
With Schuler in the fold, Michigan State's 2027 class now sits at No. 28 nationally on 247Sports, just outside the top 25. While it's still early in the recruiting cycle—with plenty of movement expected from both the Spartans and their competitors—this commitment signals that head coach Jonathan Smith and his staff are building strong foundations for the future. For a program looking to re-establish itself in the competitive Big Ten, landing talented edge rushers from talent-rich Ohio is a promising step forward.
