EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Michigan State dismantles Maryland with a 13-1 win, after the Spartans score 12 runs in the first two innings.
Three Michigan State players hit homeruns in the game, including Noah Bright and Adm Broski. In the 2nd inning, Ryan McKay would crack home his first career grand slam.
Even in a loss in game one of the series, the Spartans have now scored 10 runs in three consecutive games for the first time this season.
“We kind of learned from Friday,” McKay. “We took a lot of pitches and struck out a decent amount, so our thought process was just get your swing off early in the counts and it really worked out. We found a lot of holes and we got a lot of hits that everybody put together.”
Michigan State pitcher Carter Monke picked up the win, going five innings and only giving up four hits and one earned run.
“To get out to a quick start like that is very important, especially on game three,” said Michigan State baseball coach Jake Boss Jr. “If you can get into the bullpen, then you kind of set yourself up for success and I thought Carter Monke really threw well. Sometimes believe it or not it can be difficult to pitch with a big lead like that because it’s easy to lose your concentration but that guy was locked in all day long.”
The Spartans will hope to take that momentum into their next series, as no. 1 ranked UCLA comes to town on May 1st. The Bruins are undefeated in Big Ten play this season.
