Michigan State's Adam Nightingale is adding a prestigious red, white, and blue chapter to his coaching resume. The Spartans' head coach has been named the bench boss for the 2027 U.S. National Junior Team, tasked with leading America's top young talent at the next IIHF World Junior Championship.

The appointment marks a significant honor for Nightingale, who has rapidly built Michigan State into a college hockey powerhouse. Fresh off guiding the Spartans to their third consecutive Big Ten regular-season title and another deep NCAA Tournament run, he now turns his focus to the international stage.

While this is his first head coaching role with the national junior squad, Nightingale is a seasoned veteran of USA Hockey. His experience includes seven previous stints with national teams, most notably serving as an assistant coach for the gold medal-winning U.S. men's team at the 2025 IIHF World Championship. That championship pedigree is exactly what USA Hockey is banking on for the 2027 tournament in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta.

John Vanbiesbrouck, the team's general manager, highlighted Nightingale's winning mentality and deep knowledge of the American player pipeline. This blend of recent NCAA success and proven international experience makes Nightingale an ideal leader to develop the next generation of U.S. hockey stars, aiming to bring world junior gold back to American soil.
