The Michigan Wolverines are heading into the fall with a running back room that's shaping up to be one of the team's biggest strengths—and it's easy to see why. Head coach Kyle Whittingham highlighted this depth during spring practice, and the talent on hand backs up the hype.

Leading the charge is Jordan Marshall, the team's top rusher from last season and a spring practice captain. Marshall racked up 932 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023, stepping into a bigger role after an injury to Justice Haynes. His leadership has only grown, and running backs coach Tony Alford is excited about his trajectory. "He's a leader, a team leader, and a leader of our room," Alford said. "He's continuing to get better and raising the bar for himself."

Joining Marshall is Bryson Kuzdzal, who started two games late last season while Marshall dealt with a shoulder injury. Kuzdzal briefly entered the NCAA transfer portal but made the important decision to return, bolstering the Wolverines' depth—especially after Micah Ka'apana suffered a season-ending injury in the spring.

And then there's the newcomer everyone's talking about: five-star freshman Savion Hiter. At 6-foot, 210 pounds, Hiter already looks the part. Fans got a taste of his potential during the spring game, where he ran for 44 yards on 10 carries. His high school numbers are eye-popping: 1,445 yards and 25 touchdowns as a senior, following a junior season of 1,698 yards and 26 touchdowns. "He's a really good player and even a better kid," Alford said, adding that Hiter's work ethic and character are just as impressive as his on-field ability.

With this trio—and a room full of hungry talent—Michigan's ground game looks poised to power the offense this season. Whether it's Marshall's proven production, Kuzdzal's veteran savvy, or Hiter's explosive potential, the Wolverines have the kind of depth that keeps defenses guessing and fans excited.
