The Michigan Wolverines' backfield depth has taken a hit this spring. Reserve running back Micah Ka’apana will miss the entire 2026 season after suffering a significant injury, head coach Kyle Whittingham confirmed.

Whittingham shared the unfortunate news while updating the team's progress, calling it a "big downer" for the squad. He expressed confidence in Ka’apana's resilience, stating, "He’s a tough kid and he’ll be missed... I’m sure he’ll return from and be back for the ’27 season." The specific nature of the injury was not disclosed.

The sophomore saw limited action last year, appearing in four games and tallying 38 yards on 10 carries, showcasing a glimpse of his potential before this setback. Whittingham noted that Ka’apana was "having a good spring" prior to the injury, making the timing particularly difficult.

Despite this loss, the Wolverines' running back room remains a position of strength, a crucial element for any team with championship aspirations. The unit is anchored by returning leading rusher Jordan Marshall and features promising talent in five-star freshman Savion Hiter and experienced contributor Bryson Kuzdzal, who rushed for 326 yards and four touchdowns last season.

For Ka’apana, the focus now shifts to recovery and rehabilitation, with the hope of returning to the field stronger for the 2027 campaign.
