The second week of Michigan Girls High School Flag Football has wrapped up, and the action on the field is already heating up. Sports reporter Brandon Folsom breaks down the latest rankings from the Hometown Life coverage area, highlighting standout performances and key shifts in the standings.
This week, the rankings cover teams across Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Canton, Commerce Township, Farmington, Farmington Hills, Garden City, Livonia, Milford, Northville, Novi, Plymouth, Redford, South Lyon, Wayne, Walled Lake, Westland, White Lake, and Wixom. After two weeks, some squads are clearly making their mark.
1. Wayne Memorial (2-0; Last week: No. 6)
The Zebras are climbing fast after a dramatic 24-12 win over rival Westland John Glenn. Wayne Memorial boasts three of the region's top players: Laylah Brown, Skyann Penn, and Capri Easley. Penn sealed the victory with a 16-yard pick-six with just 47 seconds left, while Brown showcased her sprinter's speed with two interceptions and a 43-yard touchdown return. The game-winning drive came from Easley's physical presence, capping a 59-yard run by Brown with a 17-yard reverse for the score. This team is proving it has the firepower to contend.
2. P-CEP Prowlers (2-0; Last week: No. 2)
The Prowlers remain undefeated after a 24-0 shutout of Saline, but they had to navigate some scheduling challenges. With several key players also on the Salem softball team—which had a golf outing at the same time—P-CEP needed special permission to field a full roster. It paid off, as three of the top performers were softball standouts. Wayne State commit Mikayla Roberts threw for 162 yards and three touchdowns while adding 34 receiving yards. Taylor Bond caught two passes for 97 yards and a score, and quarterback Charlie Lindstrom went 9-of-11 for 111 yards and a touchdown. This team has depth and resilience.
