BREAKING: Michigan Football RB Micah Ka’apana will miss the 2026 season due to a lower-leg injury, according to head coach Kyle Whittingham:

Michigan's backfield depth has taken an early hit ahead of the 2026 season. Head coach Kyle Whittingham confirmed in a Thursday press conference that redshirt sophomore running back Micah Ka’apana will miss the entire upcoming campaign due to a lower-leg injury sustained this spring.

“One big downer, Micah Ka’apana, is out for the season,” Whittingham stated. “It’s a shame, too, because he was having a good spring. He’s a tough kid and he’ll be missed.” The coach expressed confidence in Ka’apana’s recovery, expecting him to return for the 2027 season.

The injury sidelines a player who was poised to contribute. A three-star recruit from the 2024 class, Ka’apana saw limited action in his first two years, totaling 38 rushing yards and 12 receiving yards across six games. Whittingham noted Ka’apana was projected as the team's fourth running back, highlighting the importance of depth in the grueling Big Ten schedule.

With Ka’apana out, the Wolverines will lean more heavily on their primary trio: Jordan Marshall, Savion Hiter, and Bryson Kuzdzal. While the injury isn't expected to derail Michigan's season plans, it forces running backs coach Tony Alford to develop another option for the RB4 role, a critical spot for special teams and injury insurance.

Here's to a full and speedy recovery for Micah Ka’apana as he focuses on returning stronger for the 2027 season.
