Michigan Football made a significant impression on one of the nation's top young defensive prospects during a recent campus visit. Brayden Watson, a 2027 three-star linebacker from powerhouse Buford High School in Georgia, left Ann Arbor with the Wolverines firmly among his top choices.

"Going into the visit, I’ve heard a lot of great things and they didn’t disappoint," Watson told Maize n Brew. "They were a school that was at the top of my list and they still are."

Watson, who visited alongside his Buford teammate and fellow Michigan target Ethan Hauser, was thoroughly impressed by the program's environment and coaching staff. He described Ann Arbor as "an awesome place to be" and praised the staff for leaving a "lasting impression."

On the field, Watson sees a clear fit for his skills. "From watching practice, I can tell I already fit some of the play styles of the current linebackers, so I think I will fit in just fine," he noted, a promising sign for a defense known for its disciplined, physical play.

A key factor in Michigan's surge is Watson's growing relationship with linebackers coach Alex Whittingham. "We talk very often... I love his coaching style," Watson said. "He also brings valuable knowledge from the NFL, which is very appealing as a recruit."

Head coach Kyle Whittingham also played a pivotal role, with Watson describing him as "a very genuine guy" and "definitely a coach I can see myself playing for."

The recruitment is far from over. Watson plans to return to Michigan for an official visit during Victor’s Weekend in June, stating he wants to see player housing and continue building relationships with the staff and players. Before that, he will take an official visit to Pitt.

Ranked as the No. 31 linebacker in the country for the 2027 class, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound Watson represents a major defensive target for the Wolverines as they look to build their future. His recruitment is a storyline to watch this summer.
