The legacy continues in Ann Arbor. Charles Woodson Jr., son of Michigan's legendary Heisman Trophy winner and national champion Charles Woodson, has officially committed to the Wolverines, announcing his decision on Instagram this past Friday.
This commitment carries deep emotional weight for the Woodson family. Almost exactly one year ago, in early June 2025, the younger Woodson received his offer from Michigan's previous coaching staff. Despite a near-complete overhaul of the coaching room under Kyle Whittingham, the three-star safety from Lake Nona High School in Orlando, Florida, never wavered in his desire to follow in his father's footsteps.
Standing 5-foot-10½ and weighing 173 pounds, Woodson Jr. brings a skill set that already has scouts taking notice. 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Irvins praised his development: "Smart safety with best-in-class type of bloodlines that made noticeable strides between sophomore and junior campaigns. Darts forward with conviction in run support, taking sound angles to the football despite not being the largest defender at this stage. Shows promising awareness in both zone and man coverage as he gets to the catch point and will play through hands."
While he may not carry the same five-star hype his father did coming out of high school—currently ranked as the No. 804 overall player in the 2027 class, No. 82 safety nationally, and No. 75 in Florida per 247Sports composite rankings—those bloodlines suggest significant upside. As he continues to grow into his frame, a notable leap in development feels almost inevitable.
His junior season stats back up the potential: 73 tackles, eight pass breakups, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery for an 8-4 Lake Nona squad. He also flashed playmaking ability on special teams, returning a kickoff for a touchdown.
Reflecting on his son's offer last summer, the elder Woodson told the Free Press, "I mean, it was cloud nine, man. First of all, I'm a father and so for your son to get that type of attention from anywhere is truly amazing. But when you get a call from your own school, it means that much more."
Now, the next chapter of the Woodson legacy in maize and blue is officially underway.
