BOOOOOOOM! Michigan Football is building something special, and the future just got even brighter. The Wolverines have landed their seventh commitment in the 2027 recruiting class, and it's a big one—four-star edge rusher Jayce Brewer has officially announced his decision to join the Maize and Blue.
Brewer, a standout from Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, stands at an imposing 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds. He chose Michigan over a heated list of suitors, including Indiana, Tennessee, and Purdue, making his announcement on Saturday afternoon with a resounding "GO BLUE."
This commitment didn't happen overnight. Brewer visited Ann Arbor twice this spring, most recently for the spring game, and those trips sealed the deal. He connected deeply with the coaching staff and players, particularly defensive tackles coach Larry Black and defensive ends coach Lewis Powell. While the previous coaching staff initially offered him, it was the current team's relentless effort and personal touch that pushed Michigan to the top.
"I would say the history of great defensive linemen they have produced and relationships that have been built with coaches," Brewer told Rivals' Steve Wiltfong, explaining his decision. It's a testament to Michigan's legacy of churning out elite pass rushers—a tradition that resonates with recruits like Brewer.
On the field, Brewer is a force to be reckoned with. Last season, he racked up 31 tackles, including nine for a loss, 2.5 sacks, and 13 quarterback hurries. Ranked as the No. 361 overall prospect in the country, the No. 33 edge rusher, and the No. 9 player in Indiana per the Rivals Industry Rankings, he brings a blend of size, speed, and tenacity that fits perfectly into Michigan's defensive scheme.
Brewer's commitment adds to an already impressive 2027 class for the Wolverines. He joins four-star offensive lineman Jakari Lipsey, four-star edge rusher Recarder Kitchen, four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati, three-star offensive linemen Sidney Rouleau and Louis Esposito, and three-star safety Maxwell Miles. With seven commits now on board, Michigan is laying a strong foundation for the future.
Brewer is scheduled to take his official visit to Ann Arbor from June 19-21 during Victor's Weekend, a highlight event for recruits. As the Wolverines continue to stockpile talent, fans can expect more fireworks on the recruiting trail. For now, it's all about celebrating this latest win—and getting ready to see Brewer terrorize opposing quarterbacks in the Big House.
