Michigan football is building serious momentum on the recruiting trail, and the Wolverines just added a major piece to their future defense.

Four-star edge rusher Jayce Brewer officially committed to Michigan on Saturday, May 9, making his announcement at a press conference in Indianapolis. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound standout from Franklin Central High School had narrowed his choices to Indiana, Tennessee, and Purdue, but when he put on the Michigan "block M," the crowd erupted. Brewer is ranked as the No. 8 player in Indiana, the No. 28 edge rusher nationally, and the No. 342 overall prospect in the Class of 2027, according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Scouting reports highlight Brewer's impressive physical traits and potential. 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins describes him as a "thick edge player that can slip blocks and create negative plays," noting that Brewer is "young for the grade and is likely to undergo a major physical transformation in the coming years." Ivins also praises his fluid movement and ability to split double teams, while pointing out that refining his pass-rush moves will be key to generating more quarterback pressure. Brewer projects as a multi-year contributor at a Power Four school.

Brewer has already made multiple visits to Ann Arbor, including trips in March and for the spring game in April, with an official visit scheduled for June 19. He becomes the second edge rusher in Michigan's 2027 class, joining Muskegon's Recarder Kitchen, and is the first commit directly tied to new defensive line coaches Larry Black and Lewis Powell.

This commitment continues a strong recruiting stretch for the Wolverines. Brewer is the second pledge this month, following Kalamazoo offensive tackle Jakari Lipsey, and brings Michigan's total to seven commits in the 2027 class. The class currently ranks No. 30 in the nation, showing the program's ability to attract top talent early in the cycle.

For Michigan fans, Brewer's addition signals that the future of the defensive front is in good hands—and that the Wolverines are ready to compete for elite prospects well beyond the 2025 and 2026 classes.
