Michigan football is making serious moves on the recruiting trail, and the Wolverines just added another big name to their 2027 class. Four-star edge rusher Jayce Brewer, out of Indianapolis (Franklin Central), officially committed to Michigan on Saturday, May 9, choosing the Wolverines over a competitive group of finalists that included Indiana, Tennessee, and Purdue.

At a press conference, Brewer sat down with four hats on the table before proudly putting on the block 'M'—a move that sent the crowd into a roar of approval. Standing at an impressive 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, Brewer brings a powerful frame and athleticism that have scouts taking notice. According to 247Sports composite rankings, he's rated as the No. 8 player in Indiana, the No. 28 edge rusher nationally, and the No. 342 overall player in the Class of 2027.

Scouting reports highlight Brewer's potential as a disruptive force on the defensive line. 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins describes him as a "thick edge player that can slip blocks and create negative plays," adding that he "shows good bend" and can "find ways to split double teams." Ivins projects Brewer as a multi-year contributor at a Power Four school, noting that he's "young for the grade and likely to undergo a major physical transformation in the coming years." While his overall rush package needs refinement to generate more quarterback pressures, his fluid lower half and ability to change direction quickly make him a promising prospect.

Brewer's recruitment has been a whirlwind, with multiple visits to Ann Arbor in recent months—including trips in March and for the spring game in April. He's already set an official visit for June 19, signaling his strong commitment to the Wolverines. He becomes the second edge rusher in Michigan's 2027 class, joining Muskegon standout Recarder Kitchen, and notably, he's the first player to commit directly to new defensive line coaches Larry Black and Lewis Powell.

This commitment adds to a hot streak for Michigan, as Brewer is the second pledge this month, following Kalamazoo (Loy Norrix) offensive tackle Jakari Lipsey. With seven commits now on board, the Wolverines' 2027 class is currently ranked No. 30 in the nation—and with talent like Brewer in the fold, that ranking is only expected to climb.
