Michigan Football is making a strong early impression on one of the top tight end prospects in the 2028 class. Four-star recruit Jack McNamara, hailing from Chicago powerhouse Brother Rice, recently visited Ann Arbor for a spring practice—and the Wolverines have left a lasting mark.
McNamara spent quality time with Michigan tight ends coach Freddie Whittingham, who is leading the recruiting charge for the talented 6-foot-5 prospect. The visit went beyond the typical tour, offering McNamara an in-depth look at the program's culture and development track record.
"I had a great time at the visit," McNamara told Maize n Brew. "I learned a lot of things about the program that I didn't know before."
What caught McNamara's eye? Michigan's recent success in producing NFL-caliber tight ends, including AJ Barner and Colston Loveland. The Wolverines' scheme, which emphasizes versatile, hybrid tight ends who excel in both the run and pass game, aligns perfectly with McNamara's skill set.
"I think that I fit perfectly into their tight end room due to them using hybrid tight ends," McNamara said. "All of the tight ends are very skilled in both the run and pass game. I can't wait to see how they perform this season."
The relationship between McNamara and Coach Whittingham is already strong and growing. Whittingham's reputation for developing elite talent at the position has resonated with the Chicago standout.
"My relationship with Coach Freddie Whittingham is very strong and I am excited to see how it will grow," McNamara said. "He's a coach that has developed many high-level tight ends with lots of experience."
Head coach Kyle Whittingham has also been involved in the recruitment, further solidifying Michigan's appeal.
"He's a great person and cares a lot about all of his players in the program," McNamara added.
With the bar set high after his spring visit, McNamara is already planning a return trip to Ann Arbor this summer. For a program known for its tight end tradition, landing a prospect of McNamara's caliber could be a major building block for the future.
"Michigan has definitely put themselves very high on my list," McNamara said. "I plan on coming back next in the summer. I can't wait to see how they have improved from the spring."
For Michigan fans, this is a name to watch closely—and for those looking to rep the Wolverines' next generation of stars, now is the perfect time to stock up on maize and blue gear.
