Notre Dame women's coaching staff will say goodbye to a long-time member and former player.

Assistant coach Michaela Mabrey announced on Wednesday that her time with the Notre Dame women's basketball team has come to an end. Mabrey has served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Irish since returning to the program in 2019.

Mabrey announced the move on instagram, closing a Notre Dame chapter that connected her tenure with the Irish both as a player and later as a coach. A former Irish standout, Mabrey played from 2012-16 and was a member of the winningest class in history, one that went to multiple Final Fours and a pair of national title-game trips.

Then head coach Muffett McGraw announced Michaela to the staff in 2019, and welcomed the former Irish standout back into the family. Mabrey was retained during the coaching change to Niele Ivey and has been on the staff ever since. Her main obligations have been player development and recruiting duties.

Michaela is not the only member of her family that has connections to Notre Dame. Her sisters Marina and Dara also have history with the Fighting Irish. Michaela played alongside her younger sister, Marina, during her senior season, and both were part of the program’s extended family ties to the Irish. Her departure ends another connection between the current staff and what was one of the most memorable runs in women's basketball history.

Head coach Niele Ivey has not yet announced a replacement.
