Michael van Gerwen has just made a huge statement.

Michael van Gerwen just sent a thunderous message to the darts world—and it came with a 122 average that felt like a flashback to his absolute peak.

There’s been plenty of chatter in recent years that MVG’s best days are behind him. But on Tuesday at Players Championship 15, the Dutch legend reminded everyone why he’s considered one of the greatest to ever step up to the oche. From his dominant 2014–2019 prime, when he hoarded major titles and terrorized the Pro Tour, to today—this was vintage Mighty Mike.

Van Gerwen started steady, grinding out three straight 6-4 wins against Dennie Olde Kalter, Adam Lipscombe, and Ross Smith. His averages in those early rounds hovered between the high 80s and mid 90s—solid, but nothing spectacular. Then, he turned up the heat.

In the last 16, he dispatched Gian van Veen 6-2 with a 101.92 average. The quarterfinals brought a tantalizing matchup against Beau Greaves, fresh off her first senior PDC title just weeks ago. Greaves tested him early, but MVG flicked a switch in the second half, closing out a 6-2 win with a 102.47 average.

Then came the masterpiece. In the semifinals, Van Gerwen faced Martin Schindler and produced one of the most breathtaking performances of the year. He whitewashed Schindler 7-0 with an astonishing 122.34 average. To put that in perspective: Schindler himself averaged 108.78—a number that would win most matches—but he never even got a dart at a double. That’s how ruthless MVG was.

He carried that momentum into the final against fellow Dutchman Dirk van Duijvenbode, winning 8-5 with a 106.57 average to seal the title.

For darts fans, this was a reminder that the fire still burns. And with another Players Championship event tomorrow, followed by Night 15 of the Premier League on Thursday, Van Gerwen might be gearing up for a very busy—and very special—few days.
