The Miami Dolphins drafted Texas football linebacker Trey Moore on Saturday in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
He's the third Longhorn to be drafted, with several other Texas teammates expected to hear their names called this weekend.
A UTSA transfer who played on the edge for Texas in 2024 before transitioning to outside linebacker, Moore enjoyed one of the best performances at the NFL combine of any player at his position. He entered the combine as a projected fifth- or sixth-round pick, but no Longhorn raised his draft stock more than the 6-2, 243-pound edge rusher/linebacker. He ran a blistering 40-yard dash in in 4.54 seconds and drew a big reaction from scouts and other prospects with a vertical leap of 38.5 inches. He also clocked a 4.43 in the 20-yard shuffle, a time usually reserved for the quicker, lighter linebackers.

Moore, a Central Texas native who played football at Smithson Valley High School, produced a mercurial collegiate career that raises some questions about his role at the next level. As a redshirt freshman at UTSA in 2022, Moore recorded a school-record 18 tackles for loss as well as 59 tackles, eight sacks, six passes broken up and two forced fumbles. He followed up that season with 14 sacks, 17½ tackles for a loss, 45 tackles, three passes defended, an interception and a forced fumble while earning the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year award.
Moore's numbers dropped at Texas but he remained a productive player on a talent-laden squad. As a junior, he started all 16 games on the edge while recording 35 tackles, 9½ tackles for a loss, 5½ sacks and two forced fumbles. He moved to outside linebacker this past season and posted 35 tackles, five tackles for a loss, three sacks and three passes defended as he spent more time in coverage.
