The Mets opened up their three-game series with the Colorado Rockies on Monday with a 4-2 win.

The New York Mets kicked off their three-game series against the Colorado Rockies with a thrilling 4-2 victory on Monday night, showing off both their pitching depth and late-inning power.

For the first five innings, this game was a pitcher's duel for the ages—both teams combined for just one hit. Huascar Brazoban set the tone with a scoreless first inning, and Austin Warren followed with two shutout frames, striking out three. Then came David Peterson, who has been lights-out as a reliever this season, entering in the fourth to continue New York's dominance on the mound.

On the other side, Rockies starter Tomoyuki Sugano was nearly untouchable, holding the Mets hitless through five innings and facing the minimum—thanks to a double play erasing a third-inning walk. But everything changed in the sixth inning, when the Mets' bats erupted with three straight extra-base hits to grab a 2-0 lead.

Carson Benge ignited the rally by crushing a leadoff home run 436 feet to right-center. Francisco Alvarez followed by ripping a double 404 feet off the left-center field wall, and Luis Torrens—snapping an 0-for-13 slump—added an opposite-field double. Suddenly, New York was in full control.

With runners on second and third and two outs, Mark Vientos stepped to the plate. He had already sent two flyouts to the warning track in left field, totaling 815 feet of near-homers, and had launched two monster home runs the day before. Facing reliever Jaden Hill, Vientos lined a single up the middle, finally getting rewarded for his efforts with a two-run single that doubled the Mets' lead to 4-0. Vientos now has six RBIs in his last two games.

With a comfortable cushion, Peterson delivered a shutdown sixth inning, striking out the side—including two via the ABS system. He ran into trouble in the seventh after retiring the first two batters, allowing a single and a long triple to Jordan Beck that put Colorado on the board. But the Mets' bullpen held firm, securing the win and setting the stage for an exciting series ahead.
