The Mets are in dire need of some offense.

The New York Mets are off to a sluggish start that no one saw coming—a frustrating mix of poor performance and untimely injuries. While questions have swirled about manager Carlos Mendoza's job security, Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns has made it clear: Mendoza isn't going anywhere. "Amid one of the worst starts in franchise history, the Mets are backing their manager," MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reported. "Carlos Mendoza will remain at the helm."

But the real issue? The offense. And it's not just bad—it's historically bad. According to ESPN, the Mets rank dead last in runs scored, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. They're also last in advanced metrics like wOBA, wRC+, and ISO. Only Juan Soto (who missed nearly three weeks with a calf injury) and Francisco Alvarez have an OPS+ above 100—meaning they're the only healthy regulars performing at an average level or better.

Something needs to change, and a trade could be the spark. One name that makes sense: Christian Walker of the Houston Astros. Walker is a power-hitting first baseman who's been on fire to start the season, and his glove is just as impressive—he's a three-time Gold Glove winner. FanSided's Zachary Rotman proposed a deal that would send left-handed starter David Peterson and pitching prospect Jonathan Pintaro to Houston in exchange for Walker.

The Mets have cycled through several options at first base without finding a consistent answer. Walker, who's in the second year of a $60 million contract ($20 million annually), could provide the stability and pop they desperately need. His elite defense would also shore up the infield.

The season isn't lost yet, but the window is closing fast. If the Mets want to turn things around, a bold move like this might be their best shot at getting back in the race.
