After a quietly dominant 2023 in Double-A, where he finished second in the Eastern League with 147 strikeouts, Wenninger has seamlessly transitioned to the next level. Through his first three starts for Syracuse, he boasts a stellar 1.26 ERA and 15 strikeouts, including a strong 5.1-inning outing against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this past Friday.

What makes the Mets' No. 8 prospect so intriguing is his deep and versatile arsenal. He features a fastball that can touch 97 mph, complemented by a swing-and-miss splitter, a cutter, a sinker, and a gyro slider. This well-rounded toolkit gives him the profile of a reliable, high-floor starting pitcher who could stabilize the back of a rotation.

Wenninger isn't the only arm turning heads in Syracuse. Fellow prospect Christian Scott has also rebounded with two excellent starts, adding to the depth of promising young pitchers in the system. Veterans Kodai Senga and David Peterson have both had a rough start to the year, with Senga's ERA ballooning to 8.83 after being hit hard in consecutive outings.
