Good morning, Mets fans! It's Saturday, May 9, 2026, and our boys in blue and orange are finally finding their rhythm. After a season full of extra-inning heartbreaks, the Mets flipped the script last night in the series opener against the Diamondbacks. With the offense struggling to get going—a familiar story this year—the game headed to the tenth inning tied at one. But this time, the Amazins delivered. Mark Vientos and Carson Benge each roped RBI doubles, powering the team to a 3-1 victory. It's their fifth win in the last seven games since May began, and the energy is starting to feel different.

Speaking of Benge, moving him up to the five-hole in the lineup paid off big time. That clutch hit is exactly what the Mets need as they try to climb back into contention. Speaking of which, there's chatter that the team might have had some preliminary conversations about a trade for Brewers' ace Freddy Peralta if they can't turn things around. For now, though, the focus is on the guys in the clubhouse and the pipeline. Down in Syracuse, a handful of prospects are knocking on the door, ready to contribute to the big league squad. Triple-A hitting coach Nate Irving is particularly impressed with A.J. Ewing, Ryan Clifford, and Nick Morabito, who are all making strong cases for a call-up. And Jonah Tong? He turned in another solid start for Syracuse, inching closer to that next promotion to the majors.

Around the league, the Braves had a tough night, stranding runners in scoring position and falling 3-1 to the Dodgers. Good news for Atlanta fans, though: Ronald Acuña Jr. could be back from the injured list as soon as he's eligible. The Phillies mounted a huge comeback against the Rockies to force extras, but couldn't finish the job, losing 9-7. Foster Griffin shined for the Nationals in a 3-2 win over the Marlins, and the Tigers are feeling optimistic about Tarik Skubal's recovery after the two-time Cy Young winner underwent elbow surgery. Over in Chicago, Munetaka Murakami continues to be a bright spot for the White Sox, while Jacob Misiorowski lit up the radar gun last night—throwing absolute gas. And yes, it's May 9th, and the Cubs are... well, still the Cubs.
