The New York Mets took a series win on the West Coast this weekend, beating the Los Angeles Angels 5-1 on Sunday at Angel Stadium. While a series victory against one of the few teams with a worse record might not seem like much, it's a step in the right direction for a team trying to climb out of a deep hole.

Mark Vientos was the star of the show, launching two home runs and driving in four runs. His first blast came in the third inning off Jack Kochanowicz—a go-ahead, two-run shot into the rock fountain that put the Mets up 2-1. He added another in the eighth, crushing a sweeper from Nick Sandlin over the left-field fence.

"I think the work behind the scenes is, for sure, showing these past two days," Vientos said. "I've been seeing the ball great all season. I think I've just been missing stuff, and I didn't miss these two pitches today."

Right-hander Clay Holmes delivered a gritty performance on the mound, going 6⅔ innings and keeping the Angels scoreless after a shaky start. Leadoff hitter Zach Neto drew an 11-pitch walk in the first, and Mike Trout followed with a walk of his own. Jorge Soler then singled to give the Angels a 1-0 lead, but Holmes escaped further damage with a 5-3 double play. He settled in from there, allowing just three more hits and striking out six.

The Mets rewarded Holmes with three more runs in the fourth, giving him the win. Manager Carlos Mendoza emphasized the importance of bouncing back after a tough loss the night before.

"Last night was a tough one, but I'm glad that we were able to turn the page and come back here with a quick turnaround and get the job done," Mendoza said. "That's what it's going to take for us to get to where we want to be, winning series one series at a time."

For Mets fans, this series win is a small but meaningful sign of resilience. Every victory counts when you're fighting to get back in the race—and with performances like this, the team is showing it has the fight to keep going.
