In a move that adds an intriguing chapter to his collegiate journey, Ashton Hardaway—the son of Memphis basketball head coach Penny Hardaway—is taking his talents to Coastal Carolina, as reported by On3 on May 12.

The 6-foot-8 forward, who was a four-star recruit coming out of high school, has had a winding path through college basketball. He spent two seasons with the Tigers (his freshman and junior years), with a stop at Saint Mary's in between. During the 2025-26 season at Memphis, Hardaway appeared in 25 games, making nine starts, and averaged 5.6 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.

A California native, Hardaway showcased his defensive potential by finishing second on the team in blocked shots with 18—just one behind teammate Thierno Sylla. However, his season was cut short due to a calf injury that sidelined him for the final five games. His most impressive offensive performance came on January 21, when he poured in 18 points in just 22 minutes during a loss at Tulsa.

As Hardaway heads to Coastal Carolina, he brings a versatile skill set and a hunger to make his mark in a new program. For fans following his journey, it's a reminder that the path to success in college basketball often takes unexpected turns—and that's part of what makes the sport so compelling.
